Training blocks (Base, Build, Peak, Taper)

Plan an athlete's season in blocks with a km target for every week, and copy it to the whole batch.

Training blocks split the weeks before a race into Base, Build, Peak and Taper, each with a weekly km target. The targets guide your plan. You still add workouts on the calendar as usual.

Plan blocks for an athlete

  1. Open the athlete's page and go to the Progress tab.
  2. On the Season card, tap Plan blocks (or Edit if they already have some).
  3. Under Timing, choose when the blocks fall (see below).
  4. Set up each block (see below).
  5. Change any single week in the Each week boxes if you need to.
  6. Tap Save for {name}, or Save for whole batch.

Timing

  • End in race week: the blocks are counted back from their goal race, so the last block ends in race week. This shows only if they have an upcoming race.
  • Start on a date: the blocks start on the Monday of the week you pick.

Each block

  • Block: Base, Build, Peak, Taper or Recovery
  • Weeks: 1 to 16
  • From km and To km: the weekly distance at the start and end. The weeks in between rise or fall evenly.
  • Sessions/wk: optional
  • Lighter last week (70%): makes the last week an easier recovery week

The editor starts with Base 4 weeks, Build 4, Peak 3 and Taper 2. Use Add block for more (up to 8) and the bin icon to remove one. Remove all clears the season.

Save for whole batch

This copies the blocks to everyone else in the athlete's batch and replaces the blocks they have now. Where another athlete has a race on the same day, their blocks are linked to it.

Where it shows

  • The Season card on Progress: the blocks as a bar, a dashed target for each week, and the km done.
  • The athlete page Week tab and the athlete's Plan: "Build · week 2 of 4" with Target, Planned and Done. Planned turns green within 10% of the target, yellow within 25%, and red beyond that.
  • The athlete's Today shows the current block under the greeting.

Good to know

  • A season can be up to 52 weeks.
  • Athletes with a coach can see their blocks but not change them. Athletes training on their own plan their own.
